Teacher's Guide

In the years since I published the first History Portfolio, many parents have asked me if I have suggestions of what to put into each and every "image box" and "text box" in the Portfolios. In answer to these many requests, I am delighted to present the History Portfolio Teacher's Guides.

While the Table of Contents in each of the Portfolio volumes already provides general suggestions of what to include on each page, the Teacher's Guide takes it one step further by providing dozens of hand drawn images, crossword puzzles, word searches, full page one-of-a-kind coloring book pages, specially designed lined pages, and numerous topics for reports, narrations, and copywork. In the Teacher's Guide you will find something specific to put into each and every image box and text box. In many cases, I have provided multiple, grade appropriate suggestions for each box in order to support families with several children using the books. With the History Portfolio Teacher's Guide you will be off and running without the need to pre-plan each page.

Whether you use the Guide as-is, coloring, cutting, and pasting the images into the Portfolio, or whether you use it as a springboard and source of ideas, is up to you. In either case you are sure to find that your work is lightened, and your imagination is set free.

How to Order

Sample Pages

A page from the "First Civilizations" Chapter in the Ancient History Portfolio.

A page from the "Ancient Near East" Chapter.

Two pages from the "Ancient Bible Lands" Chapter.

Suggestions for Use

All of the images in the books were specifically drawn to allow for the best coloring experience. Most images have no shading so as not to interfere with the student/artist, and their coloring style.

The images can be colored, cut out along the dotted lines and pasted directly into the Portfolio as suggested within the guide. Or, consider cropping the images, and pasting them on colorful paper before placing them into the individual boxes. Let your imagination go!

Additional Resource Materials

The back of the Teacher's Guide contains a bibliography and a list of timeline dates. The bibliograpy includes many books in print, but also includes many lovely out of print books beloved by homeschoolers. Many will hopefully be still available through the library systems. A sampling of the suggested titles includes: A Picturesque Tale of Progress; books by R.J. Unstead; V.M. Hillyer; Shirly Glubock; Ernest Raboff; Ronald Syme; the d'Aulaire's, plus many First Books and Landmark books. Both the bibliography and timeline dates are organized into time periods in order to correlate with the chapters in the book.

Copyright

Rights are granted to copy for use within the family. Rights are also granted to make copies for co-op and school use if all materials being photocopied, or printed from pdf, are used in class or are directly part of the lessons/material being covered in class. However, if the co-op, club, or class is operated mainly as enrichment, with the greater portion of work being completed at home, outside of co-op, with the parent as the main teacher, permission is not granted to copy and distribute the Teacher's Guide for take home use. The Teacher's Guides are consumable, and should not be resold unless unused.
